Diplomats Dominate Conference Opener

LANCASTER, Pa. – Thirteen Diplomats registered points, led by 12 from Alexa Barbush, as Franklin & Marshall overwhelmed Bryn Mawr 71-35 in its Centennial Conference (CC) opener, Tuesday night at the Mayser Center. The Diplomats' improved to 3-0, 1-0 CC, while the Owls fell to 1-2, 0-1 CC.

F&M started out the game on fire, going up 20-1 earlier in the contest. The Diplomats continued to pour on the baskets, extending the margin to 33 and heading into halftime with a 48-15 lead. Barbush scored 10 in the first half, shooting 5-of-8 from the floor.

In the second, the Diplomats came out of the break with a 12-1 run, extending their lead to 60-16 with a Hannah Rose Nussbaum layup. F&M never allowed the Owls to pull close en route to its 36-point victory.

The Diplomats defense was solid, forcing 30 turnovers that resulted in 34 points and recording 17 steals. F&M held Bryn Mawr to only 18.2 percent shooting on the night. The Diplomats were dominant inside, registering 40 points in the paint and holding Bryn Mawr to only 16. F&M's bench had a strong performance with 39 points, led by 10 from Kristina McCarthy.

McCarthy led the Diplomats in rebounds with eight, followed by Colleen Bott who pulled down six.  

F&M hits the road next Tuesday when the Diplomats take on Ursinus in CC action. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
