Diplomats Drop Blue Jays

LANCASTER, Pa. – Alexa Barbush scored 15 of her team-high 22 points in the second half to lead Franklin Marshall to a 63-57 victory over Elizabethtown on Sunday afternoon.  The win improves the Diplomats' record to 2-0 on the season, while the Blue Jays fall to 1-2.  For her efforts over the weekend, Barbush was named to the four-member All-Tournament team.

Six lead changes highlighted a back-and-forth first half. Barbush broke a 31-31 tie in the closing seconds of the frame when she landed a free-throw to put the Diplomats up by one.

F&M stormed out of halftime with a 14-5 run to take a 46-37 lead with 13:01 left on the clock. In the run, Barbush scored 10 points in a five-minute span. The Diplomats stretched that margin to 13 points, F&M's largest of the game, with a 61-48 lead and only 3:59 left on the clock.

The Blue Jays made a late rally, forcing Diplomat turnovers and cutting the lead to 63-57 by scoring the last six points of the game. F&M retained possession with 42 seconds left on the clock and controlled the ball, allowing time to run out and escaping the Mayser Center with a victory.

Kristina McCarthy came off the bench to record her second double-double in as many nights with an 11-point, 10-rebound performance.  Emma Lisle pulled down 12 boards, nine of which came on the defensive end.

Twenty of the Diplomats points in the second half came in the paint, compared to only six from Elizabethtown.  F&M's role players stepped up for the Diplomats, scoring 26 points while the Blue Jays bench only managed six.

F&M returns to the court on Tuesday when the Diplomats host Bryn Mawr to open up their Centennial Conference (CC) slate.  The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
