LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall junior wrestler Justin Herbert is ranked 20th in the nation at 174-pounds according to the January 2 InterMat / National Wrestling Media Association (NWMA) / National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll.
Herbert won the 174-pound weight class at the Wilkes Open last Friday, running his season record to 14-1 with nine of the victories coming by way of pin. He picked up the Marv Antinnes Most Team Points Award with 23 points for the Diplomats at Wilkes. His only loss of the season came to his weight class' ninth-ranked wrestler, Navy's Matt Stolpinski, at the Navy Classic.
Herbert is currently ranked third in the Eastern Collegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) behind Stolpinski and Cornell's Steve Anceravage. Anceravage is ranked eighth in the Intermat/NWMA/NWCA poll.
A 2007 NWCA Scholar All-American, Herbert is the first F&M wrestler to gain a national ranking since Mike Parziale was ranked 26th in the nation at 157-pounds during the 2004-2005 season.
The Diplomats return to the mat Saturday for a tri-meet with Pittsburgh and Duquesne at Pitt.
