Diplomats Wrestle at Pentagon Duals
ARLINGTON, Va. – Franklin & Marshall's wrestling team traveled to the nation's capital to compete in the first ever wrestling meet in the Pentagon. The Diplomats fell 33-10 to No. 20 American and lost 26-15 to Army on Saturday at the Pentagon Duals.
Jake Bucha and Colin Ely each earned a pair of decisions in the duals to highlight F&M's performance.
Bucha's 13-6 decision over Glenn Donatelli evened the Diplomats (0-2) with American, 3-3, after two bouts. The Eagles (2-0) won the next four bouts to up 24-3 before Matt Fullowan knocked off Tanner Shaff, 9-3, at 174. Ely earned bonus points with his 10-1 major decision over Kenny Clessas at 197.
Bucha earned his second decision with a 7-4 win over Army's Glenn Donatelli to give F&M its first points of the match, trailing 6-3. Army went ahead, 17-3, with a fall and tech fall before Eric Norgard decked Rudy Chelednik, in 4:11, at 157 to make it 17-9.
Army earned nine points with three straight decisions before the Diplomats picked up two decisions to end the match with Ely's 8-4 win over Patrick Smith at 197 and Dan Canfield's 6-3 victory against Christian Botero at heavyweight.
F&M returns to the mat Nov. 20 at the Navy Classic.
