KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown tied a program record for dual meet wins in a season with a 41-6 victory over Franklin & Marshall Thursday evening. The Golden Bears (15-3) captured six of the eight bouts contested and collected a dozen points on Diplomats’ (0-9-1) forfeits at 125 and 174.
133-pounder Jake Bucha and 174-pounder Anthony Bongarzone accounted for F&M’s points on the board. Bucha managed two takedowns in a 5-0 decision of Austin Williams. The win was his second in as many matches since returning to the lineup. Bucha improved to 16-4.
Bongarzone used a reversal just before the first period buzzer to claim a lead. He rode out Ricky Pena through the third period to seal the win. Bongarzone gets back to .500 on the season, moving to 8-8 on the year.
Bucha’s victory halved the six-point hole from the void at 125, but the Bears, winners of seven consecutive duals, rallied with a technical fall and consecutive pins to jump out to a 23-3 lead. The latter half of the pins took the match out of reach for F&M.
The Diplomats return to action next Wednesday for the 67th meeting with Gettysburg.
