FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – William MacArthur and Tommy Weibye earned a pair of victories in the championship doubles draw to highlight a successful weekend for the Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships hosted by Mary Washington.
The doubles duo for the Diplomats defeated Robert Homan and Zach Mason of Haverford by a score of 8-1 in the opening round and followed it up with a 9-7 victory in the round of 32. MacArthur and Weibye's run ended in the round of 16 after an 8-2 defeat.
Joshua Kane and Geoffrey Brennan also competed in the championship doubles draw for F&M, falling in the opening round 8-5. However, the pair found success in the consolation bracket, reaching the quarterfinals with an 8-3 victory in the third round. Kane and Brennan were unable to advance any further, falling by an 8-3 score.
In singles competition, Weibye earned a win in the championship draw with a 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 mark but fell in the round of 32 by a 6-2, 7-5 margin. MacArthur dropped his opening singles match in the draw by a 6-3, 6-2 score but found success in the consolations by reaching the semifinals with an 8-0 opening round win followed by a 7-5, 6-3 victory in the quarterfinals.
Brennan dropped a 6-4, 6-2 opening round match in the B4 singles draw but won the consolation bracket with three victories that included an 8-2 win over Rosen Kantz of York in the championship.
Stern and Pataudi teamed up for an 8-4 win in the B1 doubles draw but fell by the same score in the quarterfinals.
The Diplomats conclude their season with the ITA Regionals and return to the court on March 1 with a matchup against Salisbury at 12:00 p.m.
