Silverberg Reaches Quarterfinals at ITA Regionals

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Franklin & Marshall's men's tennis team concluded its fall schedule at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships hosted by Mary Washington this past weekend.  Ross Silverberg advanced to the Championship Singles quarterfinals before dropping a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 decision to Tanner Brown of Johns Hopkins.

Seven Diplomats competed in the tournament that consisted of 10 singles brackets and six doubles brackets.

Silverberg tallied three wins en route to the quarterfinals, defeating Zach Mason of Haverford 6-0, 6-3 in the round of 64, Noah Joachim of Johns Hopkins 7-6, 5-7, 6-1 in the round of 32 and Kosuke Hasegawa of Carnegie Mellon 6-1, 6-3 in the round of 16.

William MacArthur and Doug Kaplan also competed in the Championship Singles bracket for F&M. MacArthur dropped an opening round match to Eric Spangler of Salisbury 6-1, 7-5 before picking up an 8-6 win in the consolation bracket against Matt Romei of Haverford.  Kaplan dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Duke Miller of Carnegie Mellon before earning an 8-1 win against Daniel Lakham of Muhlenberg 8-1 in the Consolation bracket.

Hamza Pataudi took home the championship in the B4 Singles bracket, defeating Ari Blask of Dickinson 1-6, 6-1, 6-1.  Pataudi advanced to the finals by defeating Ira Usry of Randolph-Macon 8-2 in the round of 16, Cole Fairbanks of Christopher Newport 8-5 in the quarterfinals and Logan Metcalf-Kelly of Ursinus 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals.

Alec Tunner advanced to the quarterfinals in the B1 Singles draw with a 9-7 victory over Joe Siami of Washington and Lee in the round of 16.  Samuel Stone advanced to the quarterfinals in the B3 Singles draw with an 8-3 win over Adam Owen of Virginia Wesleyan.

In doubles action, MacArthur and Silverberg advanced to the round of 32 in the Championship bracket before dropping an 8-3 decision to Abhishek Alla and Bryce Beisswanger of Carnegie Mellon.  The pair of Diplomats rallied off three wins in the Consolation bracket.

Stone and Geoffrey Brennan advanced to the B2 Doubles finals before dropping an 8-3 decision to Andy Dougherty and Sloan Millman of Haverford. Stone and Brennan made it to the finals with wins against Jonathon Graber and Anthony Rosselli of Grove City 8-3, Connor Hoerr and Ira Usry of Randolph-Macon 8-5 and Ari Blask and John Brittin of Dickinson 8-6.

Pataudi and Tunner pickup up an opening round win in the B3 Doubles draw with an 8-0 win over Chandler Weston and Brian Sommer of Randolph-Macon before dropping their quarterfinal match.
