Diplomats Claw Bears

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's men's tennis team defeated Centennial Conference (CC) opponent Ursinus 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon in its home opener.  The Diplomats (3-3, 2-0 CC) found victories in every singles match, while the Bears (7-5, 0-3) picked up their lone win in doubles.

F&M notched straight set wins in its first five singles matches, while No. 6 Alec Tunner overcame a first-set loss to outlast Bennet Krantz 5-7, 6-2, 13-11. No. 1 Ross Silverberg cruised past Evan Stutchin 6-1, 6-1, while Tommy Weibye recorded a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Evan Lord at the No. 2 spot. No. 3 William MacArthur earned his win 7-5, 6-1 against Matt Hope, No. 4 Nolan Bacchieri took down David Rowe 6-0, 6-2 and No. 5 Cameron Relic defeated Mike Melchoirre 7-5, 6-2.

In doubles action, the Diplomats earned victories at the first two positions, with Ursinus tallying its only point at No. 3. Silverberg and MacArthur teamed up at No. 1 to take down Stutchin and Lord 8-6, while Weibye and Bacchieri recorded an 8-5 win against Hope and Krantz and No. 2.

F&M returns to the court Thursday as the Diplomats travel to Mary Washington for a non-conference match up. Match time is set for 5:00 pm.
