Shoremen Stop Diplomats

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Arman Vartan and Doug Silverstein delivered Franklin & Marshall's lone point as the Diplomats fell 8-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's tennis at Washington College on Saturday.

Adam Cranford and Brian Danver opened doubles with an 8-0 blanking of Josh Calo and Paul Salierno at No. 2 to give Washington (7-4, 2-1 CC) the early jump. The Diplomats (3-4, 0-2 CC) pulled even with an 8-6 win by Vartan and Silverstein over sophomore Andrew Laux and freshman Brian Cedrowski at No. 1. Senior Todd Green and senior Michal Switala put the Shoremen back in front with an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles against Eric Rouff and Brad Nelson.

It was all Washington from there.

The Shoremen opened up a 3-1 lead following a 6-4, 6-2, victory by Cranford against Vartan at No. 1 singles. Aaron Ellison brought the Shoremen to within a point of clinching the match with a 6-3, 6-4, victory against Silverstein at No. 2. Cedrowski clinched the win for the Shoremen with a 6-4, 6-4, triumph over Nelson at No. 3. Green added a 6-4, 6-1 win against Rouff at No. 4, Switala won, 8-1, against Calo at No. 5, and Danver bested Tolly Taylor, 8-1, at No. 6.

The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday against Gettysburg.
