LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall men's swimming is set to host the Centennial Conference (CC) Championships this weekend, beginning with the first of six sessions on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. Preliminary heats will be conducted during the morning sessions, followed by finals in the evening, with the last session scheduled for Sunday night. The Diplomats are seeking a ninth team championship and their first since 2010.
Championship History
Only Gettysburg and F&M have won team titles in the conference's 22 years of history, with the Bullets collecting 14 and the Diplomats eight. Gettysburg has won the last six titles, dating back to F&M's 2010 triumph.
Last year, the Bullets tallied 689 points to win the team championship, followed by Swarthmore (second, 602.5), Washington (third, 559.5), and F&M (fourth, 467.5).
Medal Hunt
Eric Dietrich-Peterson looks to make a splash in his first CC Championships as he enters the weekend seeded in the top 10 of three different events. The freshman comes into the 100-yard butterfly as the top seed, as his time of 50.79 is the fastest in the conference this season. Eric Lang is seeded eighth in the event at 4:18.92, while Maxwell Lyons is 11th with a mark of 4:22.19.
Dietrich-Peterson again leads the F&M competitors in the 50-yard freestyle, as his time of 21.93 is good for ninth. Daniel Sanders is seeded in the next slot, 10th, with his time of 21.99. In the 200-yard butterfly, Dietrich-Peterson comes in at sixth (1:58.92), just behind fellow freshman Jonathon Sinton. A strong back half of the season saw Sinton jump up to the fourth seed in the event with a time of 1:58.29, followed by Cody Kalinowski (ninth, 1:59.93) and Richard Perry (11th, 2:00.21).
Sinton appears to hold F&M's best chance in the 400-yard IM as well, coming in as the third seed with a time of 4:15.12. However, he faces strong competition from within his own team, including last year's gold medalist in the event Eric Lang (eighth, 4:18.92) and Lyons (11th, 4:22.19). Lang and Sinton switch positions in the 200-yard IM, with Lang holding the upper hand as the four seed with a time of 1:58.36. Sinton is seeded eighth with a qualification time of 1:59.76.
Timothy Gould enters the weekend squarely in the medal hunt in the backstroke events. In the 200-yard backstroke, Gould's time of 1:56.49 is good for the fourth seed, while Lyons enters as the sixth seed (1:58.51) and Jack Currie is seeded eighth (1:59.13). Gould and Currie will compete for hardware in the 100 as well, with Gould coming in as the seventh seed at 53.73 and Currie as the eighth seed with a time of 54.01.
Richard Perry leads the distance crew for F&M, as his time of 4:51.06 makes him the eighth seed in the 500-yard freestyle. Ryan Caffrey heads the Diplomat effort in the 100-yard butterfly, entering as the ninth seed with a qualifying time of 1:00.66.
