SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's men's swimming team's Centennial Conference (CC) winning streak stopped with a 129-74 loss at Swarthmore on Saturday. The Diplomats (0-2, 0-1 CC) had won 22 consecutive league meets since a loss at Swarthmore in November of 2006.
The Garnet (3-0, 2-0 CC) took first and second places in the night's first six races before Tommy Bergstrom broke up the Swarthmore run with a .10 second win in the 100-yard freestyle. Bergstrom logged a 50.52. David Fell and Conor Finnegan followed on with a one-two punch in the 200-yard backstroke. Fell touched the wall in 2:03.84 followed by 2:04.08. Swarthmore took the next two races to lock up the victory.
Five different Swarthmore swimmers managed at least one victory with Daniel Duncan and Josh Satre each taking two. Duncan won the 200-yard fly in 2:00.47 and the freestyle at the same distance in 1:47.93. Satre won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:55.98 and the 1,000-yard free in 10:08.39.
The Diplomats return to the pool tomorrow afternoon against The College of New Jersey.
