Grabiak Looking for a National Championship

In 2008, Tom Grabiak became Franklin & Marshall College’s first men’s swimming All-American in two years. In 2009, Grabiak became the first male swimmer at F&M to attain All-America status in three events, and earned the swim program’s 100th All-American honor overall. In 2010, Grabiak has set his sights on an NCAA title.

Grabiak is looking to become only the second F&M men’s swimmer to win a national championship, and the first since Gordon Chalmers won the 100-yard backstroke 78 years ago, back in 1932. You can follow Grabiak as he progresses through the meet with real-time results on the NCAA’s Official Division III Championship web site on NCAA.com.

Grabiak will head to the 2010 NCAA Division III National Championships in Minneapolis Minnesota with the nation’s top time in one event, and the fourth and fifth best time in two others. When the meet gets underway on St. Patrick’s Day, Grabiak will own the top time in the 100-yard breaststroke at 55.98. Hot on his heels is Pavel Buyanov of the College of Staten Island, the defending champion in the race.

The Diplomats senior will carry the fourth best time into the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:02.74. Rory Buck of Whitworth owns the top time at 2:01.60. Grabiak will have the fifth best time going into the 200-yard individual medley competition. His seed time is the 1:51.97 swam at the Centennial championships. He will chase Collin Gladys of Redlands at 1:49.53.

Three weeks ago, Grabiak led Franklin & Marshall to its sixth-straight conference crown and eighth overall. Grabiak won the final 10 individual events in conference competition, and won gold in every race he has participated in during conference competition over the past two seasons.
