F&M Wraps Up Play at CSA's
HARTFORD, Conn. - Five Franklin & Marshall men's squash players wrapped up their seasons on Saturday at the College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championships hosted by Trinity (Conn.).
Pedro Veiga de Almeida's run in the Molloy Division (Men's B Draw) came to an end with a five-game defeat to Blake Reinson of Brown in the round of 16. Veiga de Almeida held a 2-1 edge but ultimately fell 11-8, 6-11, 9-11, 11-1, 11-9 to conclude his year with 16 victories.
Guilherme de Melo, Mauricio Sedano and Alex Arjoon each picked up a win in the consolation rounds of their respective draws on Saturday. de Melo topped Rochester's Neil Cordell in three straight in the Pool Division (Men's A Draw) 11-3, 11-8, 11-1, before dropping a 9-11, 13-11, 11-9, 11-2 decision to Faraz Khan of Rochester. With 10 wins in the 2012-13 campaign, de Melo, one of 15 All-Americans in program history, concludes his career with a mark of 64-29 (.688), which places him 13th on F&M's all-time wins list.
Sedano and Arjoon both notched their 14th victories of the year in Saturday's consolation bracket play. Sedano topped Richard Dodd of Yale in four, 11-9, 11-5, 11-3, 11-8, for his second straight consolation round win in the Men's A Draw, before falling in five to Trinity's Miled Zarazua, 11-4, 9-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-3. Arjoon tallied a three-game triumph over Alex Greer of Dartmouth in the Men's B Draw consolations, 11-9, 11-8, 11-5, but was knocked out by Trinity's Zeyad Elshorfy in a close five-gamer, 9-11, 12-10, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6.
Antonio De La Torre saw his freshman year come to a close with an 11-5, 11-6, 11-3 setback to Columbia's Tony Zou in the Men's B Draw consolations.
The Diplomats reached new heights as a team in 2012-13, breaking the record for single-season wins with 17.
