WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Gabriel de Melo’s season came to a close with a 3-1 loss (9-2; 3-9; 10-8; 9-4) to Navy’s Nils Mattson. Mattson bumped de Melo to the third round consolation bracket of the Molloy Cup Division at the College Squash Association Individual Championships.

de Melo withdrew from the tournament following the loss in order to return to campus to complete classwork. He would have faced Dartmouth’s No. 1, Edward Newhouse.

de Melo, who joined the team in January, closed his freshman campaign with a record of 14-3.
