Series History: Franklin & Marshall hits the road to take on a pair of top teams this week in an early-season test for Diplomats' men's soccer. On Wednesday, F&M meets with Rowan, who received votes in the latest top-25 poll, for the second-straight year and just the second time in series history.

Saturday sees the Diplomats take on a familiar foe in No. 23 Haverford, setting up a rematch of last season's Centennial Conference (CC) Championship match. F&M will look to avenge that 2-1 loss and cut into the 35-27-7 all-time series lead that is held by the Fords.

Last Game Against Rowan: A pair of top-10 teams squared off last Sept. 21 when No. 6 F&M hosted No. 8 Rowan. Despite a 27th-minute Ugo Okolie goal to put the Diplomats out in front, the Profs fought back with 39th-minute and 61st-minute scores.

Shots were close with Rowan holding the narrow 21-20 edge, as corners were even at 6-6. Conor Pellas, Stephen Sherbahn, Jeremy Levine and Okolie all notched three shots to lead the offense.

Last Game Against Haverford: A two-goal deficit proved too difficult for No. 8 F&M to overcome as the Diplomats fell to No. 17 Haverford by a 2-1 score in the 2016 Centennial Conference (CC) Championship game. Shots favored the Fords by a 20-11 margin in the contest, as well as corners at 6-1.

Last Week: The Diplomats bounced back from a 1-0 upset loss to Elizabethtown on Wednesday with a 1-0 blanking of Muhlenberg in the CC opener on Saturday, salvaging a 1-1 week for F&M.

In the annual Smith-Herr Boot game against Elizabethtown, a 35th-minute tally from Blue Jays' All-American Gilbert Waso proved to be the decider in a tight contest. Overall, shots belonged to the Blue Jays at 13-11 with F&M holding a 9-8 edge in the second half. Corners were in the Diplomats' favor at 10-5, including an 8-2 edge after the break.

On Saturday, F&M got back to its winning ways when Jason Tonelli broke a scoreless tie in the 88th minute. A Jim Connolly corner kick was whipped into the center of the box where Ryan Corr sent a turn around deflection underneath to Tonelli. The senior forward gained position on his defender and managed to place a right-footed attempt toward the lower right corner of the goal.

Among the Leaders (CC): Connolly's five assists lead all CC men's soccer players, while Tonelli's four goals stand alone in fifth. Tonelli's eight points, followed by Connolly's seven, are good for fifth and sixth in the Conference, respectively.

Jenkins is fifth in goals-against average (0.68), third in saves (22), and is fourth in save percentage (.846).

Among the Leaders (NCAA): As a team, F&M ranks first among all DIII institutions in corner kick opportunities per game with an average of 8.83.

Record Book Watch: Tonelli has 10 game-winning goals in his career, a mark that is tied for second in program history. Ben Beaver '13 leads the way with 20. The senior forward also has 21 career goals, which places him 13th on the all-time list, while his 45 career points stand alone in 18th. Beaver tops each category with 47 and 104, respectively.
