Reingold, Diplomats Shut Down Oswego

LANCASTER, Pa. – Maxwell Geuder scored the first goal of his career, goalkeeper Dave Reingold earned his first shutout and the No. 12 ranked Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team continued to roll in non-conference play with a 2-0 blanking of Oswego St. on Friday evening in Lancaster.

The Diplomats improved to 3-0-1 with the victory while the Lakers evened their record to 2-2.

Six corners and five shots highlighted the opening 20 minutes for F&M, which saw the Diplomats' offense generate a wide-range of scoring opportunities, resulting in missed chances.

Conor Pellas lined up for a free kick on the right side of the field in the 42nd minute and sent a long ball into the box that was headed in by Geuder to finally get F&M on the board with a 1-0 lead.

Shots were close through the opening 45 minutes, with the Diplomats holding a 9-5 lead, along with a 6-0 edge in corners.

The narrow one-goal edge was challenged by an Oswego counter in the 79th when Harrison Rieber got a shot off from 18 yards out, but the attempt went straight to Reingold who collected the save.

Ben Wild added an insurance goal just three minutes later. Paul McWhirter helped F&M capitalize on another free kick from the right side of the field, sending a ball into the six-yard box and finding Wild for the score.

Reingold (3-0-1) stopped all three shots he faced with Oswego's Evan Bogucki (1-1) taking the loss after allowing both goals and turning back six attempts on net.

Overall, shots favored the Diplomats at 21-10 with F&M running away in the second half with a 12-5 advantage. Wild led the way with four, followed by Zach Colton, Ben Draheim, Cole Niggeman and McWhirter with two each.

F&M concludes a four-game, non-conference home stand tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. against Oglethorpe.
