The 2013 Diplomats

F&M seeks its 10th consecutive winning season and fifth straight trip to the Centennial Conference (CC) postseason in 2013. Head coach Dan Wagner, who became the program's all-time winningest coach last season, enters his 12th year at the helm of the program this fall.

The Diplomats put together one of the finest seasons in program history in 2012. F&M posted a 12-6 record, tied for the third most in school history, and at one point climbed as high as fifth in the national rankings. To view last year's statistics, click here.

Despite the loss of All-CC center midfielder Mike Irving, the Diplomats return a wealth of talent and experience. Ten regular starters and 12 players with starting experience are back in the fold, giving Wagner a seasoned squad that has aspirations of making a deep postseason run.

Wagner welcomes 11 newcomers to the squad this fall. The group of freshmen includes of three forwards, four midfielders, two defenders, and two goalkeepers.

Players to Watch

The Diplomats will feature a veteran-laden lineup this season that includes 12 players who have earned significant starting time. Ben Beaver, a two-time NSCAA All-Region and three-time All-CC performer, returns for his senior campaign looking to make an assault on the F&M record books. He already holds the career record for game-winning goals (13), and enters the year ranked fourth in goals (32) and sixth in points (72).

Juniors Sam Lane and David Rosenfeld also return after grabbing All-CC honors last fall. Lane tallied six goals and four assists last year, providing a dangerous weapon for the Diplomats from the midfield and forward positions. Rosenfeld and classmate Chris Scott will serve as captains this year and once again anchor the center of the defensive unit.

Other key contributors with starting experience back in the fold this season include senior defenders Preston Kilgore and Ryan O'Connell, along with junior midfielders Max Watson, Derek Pawlush, and Jared Bomba, and junior goalkeeper T.J. White. Senior Zach Fried and sophomore Chase TenBrook also return after playing substantial roles a season ago.

The Road Ahead

Following back-to-back home contests against Medaille and Utica on opening weekend, the Diplomats travel to Oneonta St. from Sept. 6-7 for the Mayor's Cup Tournament where they will take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sept. 6 and host Oneonta St. on Sept. 7. The annual Smith-Herr Boot game with cross-town rival Elizabethtown ensues on Sept. 13, before the Diplomats travel to Alvernia for another non-conference test on Sept. 18.

F&M begins CC play at Washington College on Sept. 21, and hosts its CC home opener on Oct. 2. against Ursinus.
