LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall has earned the highest ranking in the history of the men's soccer program, claiming the No. 8 spot in the first regular season NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Divison III National Poll released Tuesday afternoon. The Diplomats are also ranked No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
F&M vaulted from being unranked into the top-10 of the national poll following a pair of season-opening victories last weekend. The Diplomats (2-0) began the year with a 2-1 triumph over 2011 NCAA Final Four participant and No. 8 Oneonta St. last Friday, before blanking Covenant 1-0 on Saturday.
The No. 8 ranking marks the highest ranking ever for F&M men's soccer, surpassing the No. 9 ranking that the 2007 squad achieved. The Diplomats last cracked the top-25 last fall, holding down the No. 25 spot in the rankings for a two-week stretch in early September.
F&M is one of two Centennial Conference (CC) schools to land in the top-25, along with No. 11 Muhlenberg. The Diplomats and Mules are ranked first and second in the Mid-Atlantic Region, respectively.
The Diplomats return to the pitch this weekend at the Shellenberger Memorial Classic hosted by Lynchburg. F&M squares off against the host Hornets on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., and Roanoke on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
