Diplomats Drop Bears

LANCASTER, Pa. –  Franklin & Marshall scored a goal in each half as the Diplomats defeated Ursinus 2-0 Tuesday night in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer play.  The win marks the 13th straight time F&M (8-3-3, 4-1-3 CC) has defeated the Bears (2-13-1, 0-8 CC).

The Diplomats got on the board early, when Ben Beaver scored in the eighth minute. Beaver's goal came unassisted when he put back a rebound for the tally.  F&M kept the pressure on, controlling the ball most of the first half, outshooting Ursinus 11-1.

F&M had a couple of near misses in the second half when Rob Hassler and Mike Irving fired shots minutes apart, just missing the net. Josh Wirtshafter's header in 85th minute put F&M up 2-0.  Eric Elicker hit a corner kick to the center of the box where Giuseppe Bua headed the ball to Shawn Ganow who headed the ball to Wirtshafter for the goal.

Zach Zamek picked up his 24th career shutout with the win. Zamek improved to 7-3-2.
