2010 Men Soccer Preview
2010 Schedule | Roster
LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's
soccer team is coming off a 9-6-3 season a year ago. The Diplomats
made it back to Centennial Conference (CC) playoffs after a year
break and have every intention on making noise in this year's
tournament. F&M has limitless potential with the 2010
squad comprised of a tremendous class of seniors, a solid sophomore
and junior group and as many as four freshmen who could start as
soon as tonight.
The key factor in a successful season is staying healthy. Injuries
to key players over the last few have made it difficult for the
Diplomats gel as a unit. Last season, four out of six losses were
by one goal.
Matt Krantz and Giuseppe Bua will lead the offense again this
year. Krantz, a 2009 CC All-Conference Second Team selection,
scored three goals and added three assists last year. Bua
knocked in a pair of game-winning goals in 2009, with three goals
and three assist of his own.
Ed Stene, Charlie Welch and Zach Zamek will anchor the defensive
unit. Zamek started his fourth season between the pipes. He
finished last season with a .89 goals against average and a save
percentage of .822. Zamek is one shutout shy of the score
record. Stene and Welch return as starters for the second
year in a row.
Looking to make an immediate impact are freshmen's Ben Beaver, Graeme Blackman, Ryan O'Connell and Preston Kilgore.
Beaver is a high school All-American from Chicago and one of the
most talked about freshmen in the conference. Blackman,
O'Connell and Kilgore were a pleasant surprise for the
coaches this preseason will certainly see some playing time.
Thanks to your continued support of the Diplomats Athletic Club,
the days of pay-per-view webcasts are over. Franklin & Marshall
has partnered with Stretch Internet to bring you free, live video
of all home soccer games this year. Franklin & Marshall has
taken the concept one step further, taking advantage of
Stretch's new GameCentral portal that finally puts live stats
and live video on the same page.
F&M opens its season tonight at 7:00 pm against Fredonia State.
They return to action on Friday versus Hobart at 6:00 p.m.
