Raiders Down Diplomats in Season Opener

LANCASTER, Pa.—Shawn Roberts goal in the 64th minute was all Roberts Wesleyan needed to defeat Franklin & Marshall 1-0 in second game of the Scrapyard Classic hosted by the Diplomats. The Raiders (1-1) Femi Arogundade found Roberts cutting in front of the net for the one-timer.

F&M (0-1) had a chance with under a minute, but Matt Melino’s shot was blocked in front of the net. The Diplomats lost the shot battle 12-10.

Zach Zamek stopped five shots in absorbing the loss. His counterpart, Brion Ehman, stopped three shots picking up his win of the year.

The opening game of the classic saw 2-2 tie between Scranton and Eastern head into overtime, where Scranton's Ray Straccia netted his second goal of the night for the game winner.

The Diplomats return to action tomorrow when they host Scranton. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
