LANCASTER, Pa. - Matt Melino's two goals led Franklin & Marshall to a 3-1 victory over McDaniel in a Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer game. The Diplomats' (8-3-1, 4-1 CC) defense stood tall, limiting the Green Terror (6-6, 3-2 CC) to just three shots on goal.
Melino's first goal came at 53:49 when he collected a rebound and put the ball in the top left corner of the net. Rob Hassler's header in the 60th minute put the Diplomats up 2-0. Melino scored his fourth goal of the year and second of the game at 76:20 on a free kick opportunity. Rodrigo Nogales took the free kick and tapped the ball over to Melino who fired it home from 20 yards out.
Franklin & Marshall outshot McDaniel 11-7 and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Green Terror's Robert Hollasch takes the loss. Hollasch stopped four shots and falls to 3-4. F&M keeper Zach Zamek picked up four saves in the win. Zamek improves to 8-2. With the victory, Zamek moves to the number two spot in career wins at Franklin & Marshall. He is four wins shy of tying Ed Stelz '06 at 35 victories.
Franklin & Marshall returns to field October 14th when the Diplomats travel to Susquehanna.
