YORK, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall fell 9-7 to York in men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Kinsley Field. The Diplomats dropped to 3-3 while the Spartans improved their mark to 5-2.
York lit the scoreboard first with a goal at 9:16 before F&M countered with unanswered goals to finish the first quarter with a 3-1 lead. Billy Kempner scored unassisted at 7:55 before T.J. Tynan won the faceoff and found Tim Gaines seven seconds later to make it 2-1. Tristan Miller netted the first of his three goals at 1:46 to end the run.
The Spartans responded with three goals of their own and took a 4-3 edge with 2:32 left to break. The lead did not stand for long as Kempner took a feed from Gaines at 1:22 and buried the shot to send the game into the break tied at 4-4.
The third quarter started with three goals by the Spartans in the opening eight minutes to put York up for good, 7-4, at 7:42. Miller stopped the spurt with an unassisted tally at 5:10 to put F&M within two, 7-5, heading into the fourth quarter. The Spartans opened the final frame with a pair of goals for a 9-5 lead and F&M countered with two of their own.
Kempner hooked up with Miller at 7:46 to put F&M within three, 9-6, before Kempner tallied his third goal with 1:09 left to make it 9-7.
Tynan won 13-of-18 faceoffs and finished with a game-high 11 groundballs. James King caused two turnovers while Gaines ended with six groundballs.
Cameron Setian turned away a game-high 15 shots in the loss and fell to 3-3. Caleb Abney picked up the win for York with eight saves.
The Diplomats return to action next Saturday when F&M opens conference play with Muhlenberg at Tylus Field. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
