F&M’s Last Game: It looked like
déjà vu all over again. As it went in Wednesday's
overtime defeat by McDaniel, Franklin & Marshall's men's
lacrosse team held a three-goal lead late in the third quarter.
This time it was Washington College making the late charge, and the
Diplomats hung on for a 7-6 win over the Shoremen.
The game was Franklin & Marshall's fifth one-goal contest of
the season and third in a row, but only the second in which the
Diplomats have been the victors. Two Chris Marcozzi saves in the
closing 90 seconds secured the win. Marcozzi denied the Shoremen 10
times in the game with three stops coming in the final stanza.
Gettysburg’s Last Game: Junior Joe Brody
dished out a career-high six assists, with four coming in the
team’s game-opening 7-1 run, as the sixth-ranked Bullets
cruised to a 16-5 Centennial Conference victory over the host
Garnet Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, Gettysburg pushed its winning streak to eight,
but with Haverford’s 13-12 overtime victory over McDaniel,
clinched second place in the Centennial Conference. Swarthmore lost
for the first time in three games.
Brody also scored one goal to finish with a career-high seven
points. His six assists were the most by a Bullet since Brian Pryor
had six against Susquehanna in 2005.
The Last Meeting: The seniors on the Franklin
& Marshall men's lacrosse team went out with a bang in their
final collegiate home game, leading the Diplomats to an 11-9 upset
over No. 2 Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) action on
Saturday night.
Mark Hild netted a hat trick and added an assist for four points,
while Marcozzi made 15 saves for the second straight game to help
F&M defeat the Bullets for the first time since 2003. It also
marks the first win in Lancaster since an 18-8 victory in 1990.
Drew Duckworth scored a game-high four goals and Zachary Furshman
made 11 stops for Gettysburg.
The Diplomats never trailed, darting out to a 4-1 lead after the
first quarter and never looking back to hand the Bullets their
first conference loss of the season.
Series Record: Gettysburg leads the series 31-20.
The Bullets have won every game except two since 1994. F&M won
last year and in 2003.
Hot Handed: Noah Wilkinsky scored four goals in
each of the two games he played in last week. The eighth goal was
the game winner in a 7-6 victory over Washington College.
Mr. Assister: Diplomats’ freshman Colin
McKew is third in the conference in assists. McKew has dished out
20 assists in 12 games this season.
On Top: Gettysburg currently leads the conference
in goals per game. The Bullets average 10.85, scoring 141 goals in
13 games.
