Swarthmore Sneaks by Diplomats
Mar 25, 2009
LANCASTER, Pa – Will Predun’s three point (2g, 1a)
performance proved to be the difference as Swarthmore (3-3, 2-1 CC)
defeated Franklin & Marshall (2-4, 0-1 CC) 8-6 in
Centennial Conference (CC) action Wednesday. The Garnet
outscored the Diplomats four to two in the second half, as Ben
Young netted the game-winning goal with 7:03 left to play.
Mark Hild’s took a Colin McKew pass and one–timed it
to cut the Diplomats’ deficit to one, 7-6, with six minutes
left in the contest. Swarthmore answered two minutes later with
David DeSimone’s goal.
Three goals were scored in the last minute of the first half
ending in a 4-4 tie. Both teams took advantage of the
extra-man-opportunities by scoring a goal each in the first
half.
Swarthmore lit up the scoreboard first on a goal by Predun just
2:40 into the game. F&M’s McKew found Harrision Jones to
tie the game at 1-1 with 8:53 left in the first quarter.
McKew entered the game with one goal on the year and doubled his
season total with a pair of scores and two assists to pace the
Diplomats in scoring. Harrison Jones and Noah Wilkinsky both added
two goals for the Diplomats.
Kevin Friedenberg turned in a great performance in the cage for
the Garnet, stopping 15-of-21 shots.
The Diplomats return to action Saturday when they travel to
Dickinson for a 1 p.m. game.
