CANONSBURG, PA - Kevin Philipow (Sr., Sudbury, Ontario/Heritage) and Mark Quick (Jr., Forest Hill, MD/St. Pauls) tied for 18th with two round scores of 161 to lead the Franklin & Marshall College men's golf team to an eighth place finish at the Washington & Jefferson Southpointe Invitational at Southpointe Country Club.
The Diplomats jumped out to a seventh place finish in the tournament through day one as Philipow carded a 79 to place ninth through 18 holes, while Quick shot 80 to place 14th as the F&M finished with a team score of 334.
The duo reversed their order of finish on day two as Quick shot 81 and Philipow chipped in for an 82, while Matt Oscadal (So., Lebanon, NH/Lebanon) and Dan Eggertsson (Sr., Royal Palm, FL/Suncoast) carded scores of 83 and 84, respectively, as the Diplomats concluded the day with a score of 330 to slip back to eighth in the final team standings.
Oscadal finished the tournament in 37th place with a two-day total of 168 (85-83), while Eggertsson (90-84-174) and Matt Dietz (So., Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) (92-88-180) placed 48th and 57th, respectively, among the field.
Overall, Mercyhurst College's Steven Barr earned medalist honors shooting par over the final 18 holes to finish with a total of 150 (78-72) to finish one stroke in front of Allegheny's John Brumberg (77-74-151) and two in front of the Gators' Drew Denton (76-76-152). Allegheny captured the team title with a total of 623 (313-310) to best Mercyhurst (326-303-629) by six shots.
