Franklin & Marshall Finishes Second at 2005 Centennial Conference Men's Golf Championship

YORK, PA - McDaniel College shot 309 on the third day of the tournament to rally from a four stroke deficit on the final 18 holes to edge out Franklin & Marshall College at the 2005 Centennial Conference Championships at the par-71 Heritage Hills Golf Resort.

Trailing 625 to 629 entering the final day after shooting 320 to cut F&M's lead to four strokes through day two, the Green Terror placed four golfers under eighty as Gerry Butler and Brendan Zadrozny shot 76, Tom Michaels shot 78 and Pat Hayes carded a 79.

Zadrozny earned medalist honors at the championships with a three-day total of 228 (74-78-76) to edge out Brian Andrews of Gettysburg (76-80-73-229), Tom Michaels of McDaniel (77-75-78-230), Kevin Philipow (Sr., Sudbury, Ontario/Heritage) of F&M (75-79-77-231) and Jack Dillon of Ursinus (80-74-78-232) for Centennial Conference Player of the Year honors.

For the Diplomats, Philipow led the way in the final round shooting 77, while Carson Crooms (So., St. Petersburg, FL/Canterbury) carded an 80, Ben Madonia (Jr., Clinton, NY/Clinton) and Mark Quick (Jr., Forest Hill, MD/St. Paul's) shot 82 and Kevin Penhallegon (Fr., Glen Arm, MD/Loch Raven) tapped in for an 87.

Overall, Crooms finished the tournament with a 240 (75-85-80), while Quick (77-80-82) and Madonia (75-81-82) shot 239 and Penhallegon finished at 254 (85-82-87).

Phiilipow earned All-Conference honors by placing in the top five at the championships for the second straight season as he placed second behind 2004 medalist Crooms (74-74-82-230) with a 231 (76-76-79) last year.

The runner-up finish marks the second straight for the Diplomats as F&M placed second at the 2004 Centennial Conference Men's Golf Championship at Eagles Landing Golf Course in Ocean City, Maryland after winning the 2003 championship at Eagles Landing.
