F&M Shoots 320 to Take Day 1 Lead at 2006 Centennial Conference Men's Golf Championships

PEACH BOTTOM, PA - Ben Madonia (Sr., Clinton, NY/Clinton) shot a 78 to tie for third place as the Franklin & Marshall College men's golf team finished with a team score of 320 to take the day one lead at the 2006 Centennial Conference Championships hosted by the Diplomats at Pilgrim's Oak Golf Club.

F&M, which holds a one stroke lead over McDaniel College and a two stroke lead over McDaniel College, recorded two scores below 80 as Ross Brown (Fr., Kingston, PA/Wyoming Seminary) carded a 79 to stand in a tie for sixth place.

Bryan Hartog (Fr., Richmond Hill, Ontario/Langstaff) is tied for ninth with an 80, while Kevin Penhallegon (So., Glen Arm, MD/Loch Raven) is tied for 16th at 83 and Dennis Gunderson (Fr., Duxbury, MA /Duxbury) is tied for 19th with an 84.

McDaniel's Steve Perrone leads the tournament with a 76, while teammate Pat Hayes is second with a 77. Madonia and Gettysburg's Tom Kefalas and Kyle Healy are tied for third to round out the top five golfers.

Overall, F&M (320), McDaniel (321), Gettysburg (322), Swarthmore (329), Muhlenberg (331), Ursinus (337), Dickinson (338) and Haverford (345) will continue the tournament on Saturday in the second round of the tournament beginning at 10:30 a.m. before concluding play in the final round on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
