MOOSIC, PA - Ben Madonia (Sr., Clinton, NY/Clinton) and Mark Quick (Sr., Forest Hill, MD/St. Paul's) carded scores of 73 and 75, respectively, as Franklin & Marshall shot 305 on day two place second at the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational at the par 72 Glenmaura National Golf Club.
The Diplomats, who entered the day tied for third in the team standings as both programs shot 311 through the opening round of play, fell to the Spartans by three strokes as York shot 302 over the final round to take a 613-to-616 victory over Franklin & Marshall.
For F&M, Madonia paced the team on day two carding a 73, 13 strokes better than his day one score of 86, to finish with a 159 as he tied for 20th place.
Quick improved by 10 strokes over his day one 85 as he shot 75 to finish with a total of 160 as he tied for 23rd place.
Dennis Gunderson (Fr., Duxbury, MA /Duxbury) and Bryan Hartog (Fr., Richmond Hill, Ontario/Langstaff), who shot 72 and 73, respectively, on day one to stand second and third, led the Diplomats individual performances.
Hartog shot 77 on day two to finish with a 150 and tie for fifth place, while Gunderson shot 82 on day two to finish with a 154 and tie for eighth.
Kevin Penhallegon (So., Glen Arm, MD/Loch Raven) rounded out the Diplomats competitors as he shot 81-80-161 to tie for 25th.
Overall, the Diplomats led the tournament in pars as Franklin & Marshall totaled 102, four more than Susquehanna University and 15 more than York.
York's Sean Leitzell earned medalist honors as he shot 73-71-144 to edge out Susquehanna's Scott Cruff (70-76-146) for the invitational's top honor.
Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on April 28-30 at the Centennial Conference Men's Golf Championships hosted by the Diplomats at Pilgrims' Oak Golf Course.
