LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall returns to the Centennial Conference (CC) Championships this weekend in search of a third consecutive CC crown. The Diplomats, winners of seven CC Championships in the last nine years and eight CC titles overall, have totaled 13 conference championships including wins from the pre-CC era. The 54-hole event, hosted by McDaniel for the second straight year at The Bridges GC in Abbottstown, Pa., begins on Friday.
Last season, F&M won the event with a three-day total of 910, defeating second-place Gettysburg by four strokes and third-place McDaniel by five. Stephen Colodny and Daniel Furman represented the Diplomats in a playoff for top individual honors, but fell just short of the title. F&M finished with all five players in the top 20 en route to the crown.
The Diplomats, ranked third in the most recent NCAA Mid-Atlantic regional poll, again enter as the favorites in 2017. F&M owns the conference's lowest team scoring average (75.99), has not finished outside of the top two in any of its four competitions this spring, and has collected three tournament wins in the last month. One of those wins came at The Bridges, as the Diplomats beat out 17 other teams to win the McDaniel Spring Invitational from March 25-26.
Individually, Brad Lankler ranks second in the CC with a 74.79 average, Colodny ranks fourth at 75.44, and Justin Lankler cracks the top 10 as his 76.94 average is good for 10th. F&M has yet to record an individual victory on the year, but B. Lankler and Colodny have accumulated four top-fives each, while Ben Mitchell has added three and J. Lankler one. Jon Meissner rounds out the five players that will compete this weekend for the Diplomats.
