Franklin & Marshall’s placed three golfers in the top 10 to capture Thursday’s Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic played out by 12 teams at the Hershey Links. The Diplomats’ Dennis Gunderson and Danny Liebowitz each shot 75 on the par 72, 6,621-yard course to tie for second place, while Bryan Hartog carded a 76 to finish in a tie for sixth place.
Gunderson and Liebowitz each finished a single stroke behind the event’s medalist, John Dimler of Moravian. He led the Greyhounds to a team score of 314, nine strokes behind F&M. The victory marks F&M’s first team tournament title since capturing the Bent Creek Invitational last October, one of three events won by the Diplomats last year. It is also the first tournament win for new head coach, Andy Tompos ’69.
Liebowitz was the top finisher amongst the three freshmen in F&M’s lineup at the Blue Jay Classic. The other pair finished in the top 25 in the 60-golfer field. Charles Kohn tied for 12th place with a 79 (+7), while Brendan Mohler shot an 82 (+10) to finish in a six-way tie for 22nd place. Moravian had two players tied with Kohn, but placed no golfers in front of him with the exception of Dimler.
F&M returns to action on Saturday at the Susquehanna Invitational.
