PORT ST. LUICE, Fla. - Two Franklin & Marshall golfers earned honors at the Golf Coaches of America Banquet Wednesday evening. The banquet is part of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships. Danny Liebowitz was one of five golfers in the nation to be named to the All-Freshman Team. Liebowitz and Andrew Woods were named to the PING/Mid-Atlantic All-Region team.
Liebowitz averaged 77.1 strokes over 15 rounds in 11 events this season. The Westfield, N.J. native finished in the top five in five events, top ten in seven of the events, and the top 20 in nine of the 11 tournaments.
Prior to the NCAA Championships, Woods played 13 rounds in nine events. The junior has five top five finishes, seven top ten finishes, and eight top 20 finishes this year. He shot a career best 69 in the opening round of the NCAA Championships on Wednesday.
The Diplomats mentor, Andy Tompos, was named the Centennial Conference's Coach of the Year. F&M's first year coach led the squad to its second Centennial Conference Championship in three years. The team averaged 310.6 per 18 this season and shot below 300 three times. F&M captured six tournament titles, including a string of three straight in the fall.
F&M is currently competing in the NCAA Division III National Championships at the PGA Village outside of Miami. The Diplomats are making their sixth NCAA appearance overall and second in three years.
