Franklin & Marshall Ranked 39th in September 20 Lazindex.com Division III Football Rankings

LANCASTER, PA -- The Franklin & Marshall College football team is ranked 39th in NCAA Division III in the September 20 Lazindex.com Power Rankings.

Following a 35-14 win over #61 Hobart College on September 18, Franklin & Marshall is 3-0 on the season as the team knocked off #183 Bethany (35-7 W) and #166 Oberlin College (41-21 W) to open the season with three straight victories for the first time since the 2002 team knocked off Oberlin (13-6 W), Catholic (13-6 W) and Ursinus (34-10 W).

The stretch of wins also marks the first time an F&M team has broken the 30 point mark in three consecutive games since the 1996 team handled Hobart (38-24 W), McDaniel (38-7 W) and Swarthmore (35-7). The victory over Hobart in 1996 marked the only win over the Statesmen by an F&M football team in program history prior to this year's win as the Statesmen hold a 7-2 advantage in the nine-game history of the series between the two schools dating between 1996 and 2004.

In addition, the Diplomats are in the midst of a five game win streak dating back to a 37-17 win at Ursinus College on November 8, 2003. The streak marks the first time F&M has strung together five consecutive victories since the 1996 team won seven straight over Muhlenberg (53-0 W), Dickinson (14-12 W), Hobart (38-24 W), McDaniel (38-7 W), Swarthmore (35-7 W), Johns Hopkins (20-14 W) and Gettysburg (35-6 W) before falling to the United States Merchant Marine Academy (20-0 L) in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Championship game.

As a team, Franklin & Marshall ranks among the Centennial Conference leaders in scoring offense (first, 37.0 points), scoring defense (second, 14.0 points), pass offense (first, 276.3 yards), pass defense (fourth, 172.3 ypg), kickoff returns (second, 22.6 yards), punting (first, 36.4 yards), turnover margin (second, +3), rushing offense (fourth, 149.7 yards), rushing defense (third, 102.7 yards), total offense (first, 426.0 yards), total defense (third, 275.0 yards), punt returns (fifth, 8.2 yards), pass efficiency (first, 159.2 yards), pass defense efficiency (second, 92.8 yards), first downs (first, 65), opponent first downs (fourth, 45), sacks by (second, eight), penalty yards (fifth, 53.7 yards), opponent penalties (third, 59.3 yards), fourth down conversions (second, 62.5 percent), opponent fourth down conversions (first, 11.1 percent), red zone defense (third, 66.7 percent), third down conversions (first, 43.8 percent), sacks against (second, five), field goals (third, .667 percent), PAT kicking (first, 15-for-15) and time of possession (fourth, 30:40).

Overall, the Diplomats are the #2 ranked team in the Centennial Conference according to the Lazindex.com behind #26 Johns Hopkins University. McDaniel (#41), Muhlenberg (#55), Dickinson (#88), Ursinus (#143) and Gettysburg (#170) round out the Conference's representation in the poll.
