LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall took two of the three Centennial Conference (CC) Football Player of the Week awards Sunday afternoon. Brendan Wengerter was named Defensive Player of the Week while Jordan Zackery picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors for their performances in the Diplomats 46-16 win over Juniata. The honors are the first for F&M this season.
Wengerter (Cresskill, N.J. / Cresskill HS) spearheaded the F&M defense that limited Juniata to its lowest production of the season with 13 tackles and a forced fumble. He tied a school record with four sacks on the afternoon and currently leads the CC in that category. Wengerter has reach double-digit tackles in three of the four games this year and has registered at least one sack in every contest.
Zackery (York, Pa. / William Penn HS) proved to be the difference in F&M's win over Juniata. The junior returned four punts for 168 yards and four kicks for 123 yards. He took one punt 66 yards for a score and finished with 344 all-purpose yards and a touchdown reception. He leads the CC in punt return average (19.7) and ranks fifth with a 24.4 kick return average.
F&M returns to action Saturday when the Diplomats host Dickinson in the Battle for the Wagon. The game will highlight Homecoming weekend with a 1:30 p.m. start.
