Diplomats Continue Spring at Murphy Cup

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – A pair of Varsity 8+ boats took to the water for Franklin & Marshall's men's rowing team on Saturday at the 35th Memorial Murphy Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River.

In the Varsity 8+ event, a boat of Tamir Shemesh (coxswain), James Nelson (8), Aidan Molloy (7), Craig Fanto (6), Dylan Smith (5), Jonathan Munro (4), Trexler Hirn (3), Joel Cannon (2), Brandon Schneider (1) posted a solid time of 6:29.52 in their preliminary heat

F&M's time was faster than boats from LaSalle (6:29.64), Pittsburgh (6:31.80) and St. Mary's (7:20.87) but was unable to land the Diplomats a spot in the petite or grand final.

In the Junior Varsity 8+ race, a team of Ryan Paulekas (coxswain), James Jarvis (8), Lukas Grattan (7), Sam Parsons (6), Pablo Portela-Lomba (5), Calvin Coffeen (4), Chris Howe-Smith (3), Ben Carroll (2) and Stuart Cattel (1) finished at 7:03.20, but were also unable to advance to either final competition. 

The Diplomats return to the water next Saturday at the Cayuga Duals, hosted by Ithaca College.
