PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – A pair of Varsity 8 boats competed for Franklin & Marshall's men's rowing team on Saturday afternoon at the Kerr Cup in Philadelphia.

Tamir Shemesh (coxswain), James Nelson (8), Sean Hyland (7), Craig Fanto (6), Javier Ricardo (5), Dillan DeCaro (4), Jonathan Munro (3), James Jarvis (2) and Aidan Molloy (1) finished fourth in their opening heat with a time of 6:32.10 to land a spot in the Petite Final. The Diplomats followed with a fifth-place finish at 6:27.20. LaSalle placed first at 6:03.53, followed by Mary Washington in second (6:06.55).
Taking part in the second Varsity 8 event, a boat of Ryan Paulekas (coxswain), Calvin Coffeen (8), Trexler Hirn (7), Grant Salley (6), Christopher Howe-Smith (5), Joel Cannon (4), Dawei Ren (3), Brandon Schneider (2) and Pierce Lawlor (1) also advanced to the Petitie Final following their opening heat. In the final, the group placed fourth out of four competing teams with a time of 6:54.07. Mary Washington won the event at 6:31.89.
Competition continues on Sunday when the Diplomats face Hamilton and Union College in Rome, N.Y.
