LANCASTER, Pa. – After capturing its first Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championship in 2012, the Franklin & Marshall men's rowing team has its sight set on a repeat. This Saturday at Gifford Pinchot State Park the Diplomats will get their chance.
"This team is eager to defend their conference championship against some tough competition," said head coach Rob Weber. "They've shown great resilience all year and know it only takes one good race."
F&M took the crown last season after their varsity 4+ picked up the programs first-ever top finish at the regatta, followed by a third-place showing in the varsity 8 to clinch the overall points title.
The varsity 4+ boat enters this weekend's 2013 MARC Championships fresh off a pair of top-three finishes after a second-place showing at the Clark Invitational on April 14th followed by a third-place effort last Saturday at the Kerr Cup.
Standing in the Diplomats way of defending their title will be the always challenging members of the MARC; Mary Washington, Richard Stockton, Rutgers-Camden and Washington College – who finished only one point behind F&M at last year's championships.
Race time is set for 8:30 a.m. in Lewisberry, Pa.
