Coming off of a successful fall season, Franklin & Marshall’s men’s rowing program looks to carry over that momentum in the spring when the Diplomats open their 2017 slate of competitions on Friday at St. Mary’s College in Maryland.
Franklin & Marshall’s men’s rowing team concluded the fall portion of its schedule at the Head of the Occoquan Regatta in Fairfax Station, Va. on Saturday. A pair of the Diplomats’ five boats secured first-place showings in the event.
Men’s rowing held its own against top competition across all three NCAA Divisions throughout the 2015-16 campaign, closing out its season in historic fashion when the duo of James Nelson ’17 and Sean Hyland ’18 advanced to the Varsity Pair Semifinals at the prestigious 2016 Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia on May 14.

A pair of Varsity 8 boats competed for Franklin & Marshall men’s rowing in a four-team event on Saturday in Philadelphia. The Diplomats took on La Salle, Philadelphia University and MARC foe Washington College.
Heading into the spring campaign off its best finish at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championships in three years with a second-place showing in 2015, Franklin & Marshall’s men’s rowing program is aiming to continue its upward trajectory.
F&M battled high-quality competition throughout the 2014-15 season and showed that it could hold its own at the various prestigious regattas which made up the Diplomats’ schedule. The varsity 8+ boat gave F&M some momentum heading into the Middle Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championships, securing a third-place finish in the petite final at the Kerr Cup in April with a time of 7:01.87.
Franklin & Marshall’s men’s and women’s rowing teams competed at day one of the 77th annual Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta on the banks of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia on Friday. The women’s varsity 4+ boat advanced into tomorrow morning’s semifinal race, while the men’s varsity 4+ boat made it to the quarterfinals, but fell just shy of the semifinals.
