WESTMINISTER, Md. – McDaniel withstood a late Franklin & Marshall run to defeat the Diplomats 60-54 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Saturday afternoon. F&M fell to 7-5, 1-4 CC while the Green Terror improved to 6-6, 2-3 CC.
Trailing 47-41 with 6:49 left to play, F&M netted six straight and tied the game at 47-47 with a little more than five minutes remaining. McDaniel answered with a 5-0 spurt before a triple from Brandon Federici brought the Diplomats within two, 56-54, with a minute on the clock.
The Green Terror went back up four and F&M came up on empty on its next possession, before McDaniel hit two from the line to put the game out of reach.
The first half featured five ties and eight lead changes. F&M held a 23-19 lead on a Lior Levy tip-in with 4:57 to play before two free throws from McDaniel kicked off a 14-2 run to close the half, giving the Green Terror a 33-25 lead at the intermission.
Federici led all scorers with 24 on 8-for-17 shooting and Hunter Eggers ended the day with eight points.
Kevin Yrizarry had a team-high 18 for McDaniel, Josh McWilliams netted 14 while Isaac Ray and Austin Cannon both chipped in 10.
F&M returns to action with a three-game week, starting with Muhlenberg at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
