COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus erased a 21-point deficit in the second half to defeat Franklin & Marshall 61-56 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Wednesday evening. The Bears improved to 4-18, 2-13 CC with win while the Diplomats dropped to 14-8, 10-5 CC.
F&M dominated early and jumped out to a 24-1 lead 10 minutes into the contest. Devin Figueroa netted 11 of his 15 points during that period before the Bears scored five straight to make it 24-6. The teams exchanged buckets the remainder of the first half and F&M took a 35-16 lead into the break.
The Diplomats increased their lead to 21, 49-28, on a Matt Porter jumper at 13:34 in second, but the Bears took control over the next four minutes with a 13-0 run to come within eight, 49-41. Morgan Lee put the Diplomats back up 10, 53-43, at 8:01 before Ursinus put together another decisive run.
Ursinus outscored F&M 13-0 over the ensuing four minutes and took the lead for good, 55-53, with just under four minutes to play. Porter brought F&M within a point, 55-54, but Ursinus outscored F&M 6-2 the remainder of the half to secure the win.
Jon Salandra picked up a double-double, scoring 15 for F&M on 6-for-10 shooting and pulling down 12 boards. Salandra added four blocks and two steals. Porter finished with 11 while Lee and Jared Wright both ended with six points for the Diplomats.
Jesse Krasna led Ursinus with 19 and Parr Vasturia chipped in 17 for the Bears.
F&M had a 39-25 edge on the glass, but the Bears converted 22 turnovers into 30 points.
The Diplomats returned to action on Saturday when F&M hosts Muhlenberg at 3:00 p.m.
