LANCASTER, Pa. – Jon Salandra and Matt Porter both scored 21 points to lead Franklin & Marshall to an 80-51 victory over Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Tuesday evening at the Mayser Center. The Diplomats improved to 3-4, 2-1 CC while the Bears dropped to 1-5, 0-3 CC.
Both teams traded baskets in the early going resulting in a 7-7 tie three minutes into the game, before F&M went on a 10-2 run and took a 17-9 lead at 13:31. The Bears answered and outscored F&M 5-2 over the next few minutes to come within five, 19-14, but the Diplomats answered with 13 unanswered points to go up 32-14 at 7:26.
Ursinus responded with a 14-6 run to come within 10, 38-28, with 1:48 left in the half, but F&M netted the final six points and took a 44-28 lead into the break. Porter had 13 points in the opening stanza while Salandra chipped in 10.
F&M continued its dominance in the second going on a 17-4 run over five minutes and took a 21-point lead, 57-36, at 13:06. The Bears came within 19 at 11:58, but F&M maintained at least a 20-point advantage the remainder of the contest and led by as may as 30 points on multiple occasions.
Salandra added seven rebounds and four blocks to go along with double-digit points, while Porter shot 9-for-13 from the floor. Morgan Lee hit all four of his foul shots and netted 10. Cedric Moune turned away seven shots and pulled down a game-high 11 boards.
Malik Draper was the only Bear to finish in double-double figures with 10 points.
F&M outshot Ursinus 54 -31 percent and held a 40-32 advantage on the glass and forced 24 turnovers, which the Diplomats turned into 29 points.
The win is the 11th straight over the Bears and the 80 points is the most the Diplomats have scored all season.
F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats travel to Haverford for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
