F&M Fires Past Bullets; Robinson Reaches 850

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Hayk Gyokchyan picked up game-highs with 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 56-49 victory over Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The victory is the ninth-straight over the Bullets as the Diplomats improved to 17-5, 12-3 CC and take over sole possession of first place in the conference with Dickinson's loss to Muhlenberg.

Glenn Robinson picked up career victory 850 and now has a career mark of 850-310. Robinson joins an elite group, becoming just the ninth coach among all three divisions to win 850 contest. 

The Diplomats led wire-to-wire and jumped out to an 8-1 lead five minutes into the game. Gettysburg score five straight before Gyokchyan hit a trey which jumped started a 12-2 F&M run that put the F&M up 21-8 at 5:55. The teams traded points down the final minutes of the half and Morgan Lee's jumper with 25 seconds left gave the Diplomats a 28-17 halftime edge.

F&M outscored the Bullets 10-4 during the first four minutes of the second to go up 17 points, 38-21, at 16:47. Gettysburg answered with a 13-4 scoring spurt to make it 42-34 before both teams went on a four-minute scoreless streak. Matt Porter's layup at 7:49 ended the streak and make 44-34, but the Bullets put together a 10-2 run to come within two, 46-44 with 4:15 left to play.

Jon Salandra stopped the Bullets' run with two from line and Lee scored three straight after an Alex Zurn dunk to put F&M up five with 3:01 on the clock. Two minutes ticked off the clock before Porter hit 1-of-2 from the stripe to give F&M a 52-46 edge and the Diplomats went 4-for-6 from line down the stretch to secure the game.

Gyokchyan shot 3-for-5 from behind the arc and went 4-for-7 from the line for his fourth double-double of the season. Porter netted 12 points while Jon Salandra finished with 11, shooting 5-for-5 from the line and Lee tallied 10 points.

Ben Constable led Gettysburg with 11 points, Joe Emerusabe netted 10 and Zurn finished with nine for the Bullets.

F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats travel to Swarthmore for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
