Dickinson Defeats F&M

CARLISLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall dropped a 71-63 decision to Dickinson in a battle of the top two Centennial Conference (CC) teams Wednesday evening. The Diplomats fell to 14-4, 9-2 CC while the Red Devils improved their record to 13-5, 8-3. F&M still holds a one-game lead in the conference standings with seven contests left to play in the regular season.

The Diplomats started out with an early 10-7 lead three minutes into the game and extended the lead to 13-9 on a Matt Porter layup at 14:09. Dickinson responded with a 10-3 run to go up 19-16 before Jon Salandra tied the game at 22-22 with 6:10 left to the break. The Red Devils outscored F&M 13-5 over the next four minutes to go up 35-27 and F&M tallied the last four points of the half to make it 35-31 in favor of Dickinson at the break.

Hayk Gyokchyan and Salandra combined for nine points in the opening 4:19 of the second to give F&M a 40-39 edge at 15:41. The teams traded scoring spurts when the Red Devils netted six straight and the Diplomats answered with a 10-4 run to go up one, 50-49, with 9:28 left to play. The lead did not last long as Dickinson outscored F&M 8-2 to retake the lead for good, 57-51, with 7:31 left in the game.

F&M came within three on a Salandra dunk at 4:53, but Dickinson scored six unanswered to pull away for good. Matt Porter hit a trey to bring F&M within six, 66-60, at 1:18, but the Red Devils hit 5-of-6 shots from the line down the stretch to secure victory.

Max Brewer and Gyokchyan both tallied 13 for F&M. Brewer shot 4-for-6 from behind the arc and Gyokchyan hit 5-for-7 from the stripe. Brandon Beckford had 12 points and Porter finished with 11.

Adam Honig paced the Red Devils with a game-high 21 points with Gerry Wixted scoring 17. Tucker Landy finished with 13 while Chris Barsanti ended with 10.

Dickinson went 18-for-20 from the line and outshot F&M 48.6% to 38.5% from the floor.

F&M returns to action Saturday when the Diplomats travel to Haverford for a 3:00 p.m. tip.
