SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Clay Scovill registered a team-high 18 points and pulled down six rebounds, while Mike Baker added a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards to lead Franklin & Marshall over Swarthmore 70-60 in men's basketball action on Saturday.
The Diplomats (17-2, 10-2 CC) posted their fourth straight Centennial Conference (CC) win to complete the season sweep over the Garnet (1-17, 0-12 CC) to remain in first place in the CC standings.
Anthony Brooks scored 12 of his 15 points in the first half, helping F&M take a 40-31 lead heading into the final 20 minutes. He also collected seven rebounds, three assists and a career-high three blocks.
Swarthmore had three players reach double figures led by Raul Ordonez with game-highs (20 point and 13 rebounds). Ryan Carmichael added 15 points while Matt Allen had 12 points.
With a 40-31 lead, the Diplomats went on a 10-2 run to take their largest lead at 50-33 after a Georgio Milligan jumper with 16:21 left in the second half.
Swarthmore cut the deficit to eight with 1:41 left to play, but Milligan hit a layup and Brooks made a steal before his fast-break dunk to put F&M out of reach at 68-56.
The Garnet got close to F&M in the first half on a Michael Giannganeli three-pointer to cut the lead to 18-17. Neither team would hold a lead larger than four points. From there, the Diplomats went on a 7-0 run, capped by a Baker layup at 6:22 to make it 25-17.
F&M made 12 steals on the afternoon and forced 19 Swarthmore turnovers.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday against Johns Hopkins. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
