LANCASTER, Pa. – Darnell Braswell recorded a double-double
of 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead DeSales in a come-from-behind
win, 67-59, over Massachusetts-Dartmouth, but it was the heroics of
Matt Zetowitz that advanced DeSales into the round of eight.
Zwetolitz banged home a three and hit clutch free throws to propel
the Bulldogs (25-5) past the Corsairs (27-4).
Zwetolitz and Brain Hunter’s clutch back-to-back free throws
with fewer than 45 seconds left put DeSales up 66-58.
UMass-Dartmouth could not respond and the Bulldogs pulled away from
there. Hunter scored all 11 of his points in the second period,
shooting 3-6 from the field and going 5-6 from the charity
stripe.
UMass-Dartmouth started the second period on a 17-6 run going up
10 on Tyler Turtoro’s three-pointer. DeSales cut it to two
with 8:51 left in the period. The Corsairs answered back with a 7-0
run, and led 56-49 with 5:51.
The Bulldogs chipped away and a Zwetolitz bomb from behind the arc
with 3:47 left, started a decisive 6-2 run for DeSales.
Braswell led all scorers on a 6-for-13 night from the field. Ed
Lapinski added 14 points for the Bulldogs. Brandon Shelton scored
13 points for UMass-Dartmouth, shooting fifty-percent from the
field. Reece Freeman chipped in 11 points for the
Corsairs.
The first half was a seesaw battle with 11 lead changes and four
ties, ending with UMass-Dartmouth leading 28-27. Braswell led all
scorers with 12 points. He was 2-2 from the behind the arc, playing
all 20 minutes of the period. Brandon Shelton led the way for the
Corsairs scoring nine points, 4-5 from the field and 1-2 from the
three-point line.
DeSales will face F&M at 7:00 p.m. for the right to head to
Salem, Va.
