LANCASTER, Pa. -- The NCAA confirmed this week that Matt Will (Oreland, Pa./Upper Dublin) is the 2011 NCAA Division III statistical champion for walks per game. Will drew 1.08 walks a contest this season nearly defeating Matt Connors (1.07) from Rutgers-Newark.
The senior shortstop led the Centennial Conference (CC) and the team in on base percentage (.546), runs scored (46) walks (41) and assists (130). He was eighth in the CC with a .369 batting average and seventh in hits (45). Will stole 13 bases and picked up 53 total bases to lead F&M.
He will end his career ranked in the top five in a handful of categories.
Will ranks first in on base percentage (.511), runs scored (160), hit by pitch (21), Second in walks (116) and assists (348), Third in hits (165), sacrifice flies (10) and double plays turned (65). He finished fourth with a .367 batting average (.367) and fifth in most at bats (450), RBIs (93), total bases (215) and stolen bases (50).
The Diplomats finished their season with a 22-18 mark and made the CC playoffs for the second time in three years.
