Diplomats Paddle Past Shoremen

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall improved its conference winning streak to six with a 10-3 victory over Washington in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action Thursday afternoon.  The Diplomats moved took over first place in the conference with a loss by Haverford.  F&M improved to 17-11, 9-2 CC while the Shoremen fell to 15-12, 6-5 CC.

Connor Devlin finished 3-for-4 from the plate and scored three times to help pace the Diplomats' offense. Matt Will went 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI. Eric Bornstein and Alex Vescera both knocked in two runs.
 
F&M struck first in the opening inning. Will and Triantos worked back-to-back walks to start off the game.  Kevin Shields hit a double down the left field line, scoring Will for a 1-0 F&M lead.
 
The Diplomats added two runs to the board in the bottom of the second. Devlin started the frame of with a single and Josh Medelson moved Devlin to second with a sacrifice bunt. Vescera and Will walked to load based and Triantos worked a walk to score Devlin.  Bornstein got Vescera across plate with a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 F&M advantage.
 
Three errors by the Shoremen in fourth lead to four runs for F&M.  Medelson and Will both knocked in a run while Devlin scored on passed ball.  Will crossed home after a throwing error by the catcher for a 7-0 F&M lead.
 
Washington managed two runs in the sixth and F&M countered with three in the seventh.  Vescera brought the first two runs in with a single to left field and Bornstein scored Vescera for the third run of the frame.  Washington got a run in the ninth resulting in the 10-3 final.
 
Mike Duranti picked up the victory and improved to 4-2 on the season. Hunter Draheim took the loss and fell to 3-1.
 
F&M travels to Washington to tomorrow for a 3:30 p.m. game.
