Diplomats Down Devils

Game 1 | Game 2

CARLISE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall tallied 23 runs over two games to sweep Dickinson in a Centennial Conference (CC) baseball double-header Saturday afternoon.  The Diplomats won the first game 6-4 and picked up a 17-4 victory in the night cap. F&M ends its five-game skid and improved to 7-8-1 (2-2 CC). The Red Devils fell to 4-12 (1-2 CC).

The Diplomats needed only one hit, and a little help from the Red Devils, to score three runs in the second frame. Dickinson committed three errors in the inning leading to all the runs. The Red Devils picked up a run in the third inning, cutting F&M's lead to 3-1. The bats remained silent for both teams in the fourth and fifth innings, before F&M came away with a game-deciding sixth.

Jay Anderson started the sixth inning off with a single to the right side. Russell Tischler walked in the next at-bat and Eric Bornstein laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners. Nick Rolnick plated Anderson in the next plate appearance as Tischler took third. He crossed home on error by the first basemen, giving F&M a 5-1 edge.

Blue Wells knocked in a run in the top of the seventh, building the Diplomats' lead to 6-1. Dickinson answered in the bottom of the frame with three runs, but Brendan McCreary came in to end their run and pick up his first save.

Nick Markel earned his first win of the year, working 6.2 innings. Markel struck out four and gave up four runs.

Drew Atkins knocked in two runners, going 1-for-3 from the bag.

The Diplomats came out strong in the second game, scoring nine total runs in the third and fourth frames en route to a 17-4 victory. F&M picked up three more runs in the sixth, while adding two in the seventh and three in the eighth.

Bill Murray, Blue Wells and Anderson all knocked in three runs in the second game. Murray also crossed the home three times and was 2-for-4 at the plate. Wells went 2-for-4 with two runs and Anderson hit 3-for-6 in the game.

J.T. Triantos, Tischler and Bornstein knocked in two runs apiece.

Mike Duranti picked up the win. Duranti worked 6.1 innings, striking out five and allowing four runs.

Franklin & Marshall returns to action tomorrow when the Diplomats travel to Elizabethtown for a 1 p.m. game.
